Help St. Joe's help homeless through the holidays

Hi friends! I am raising money for St. Jospeh's House of Hospitality (St. Joe's) in my hometown of Rochester, NY. St. Joe’s has helped to provide food, showers and a place to gather for Rochester NY’s unhoused since 1941. St. Joe's has fallen on hard times recently and do not have enough money to continue to serve the community though to the end of this month, let alone through the year. They also need to re-roof the building to stay open, which is a huge expense they need to be ready for. The only way that St. Joe's can keep running is through donations and volunteers. They need us now.

In high school, my Mom and I would volunteer together at St. Joe’s - cooking meals, organizing clothing donations and serving the guests from the community. That's when my Mom met Tom, who runs St. Joe's, who she still keeps in touch with. My Mom called me, in tears, to tell me she as afraid the shelter would close. Their work is near and dear to us and there is a big unhoused community that rely on their services.

In St. Joe's end of year letter to their donors and volunteers they write, "At St. Joe's House, we believe in the faithful stewardship of our resources and are committed to the Catholic Worker ideal of voluntary poverty. Our annual budget has always been significantly smaller than that of the other non-profits because we believe resources entrusted to us by our community should go directly to our work in our neighborhood, not towards paying inflated salaries or unnecessary overhead costs. The vast majority of the labor in our house is carried out by volunteers or worked compensated only with room and board."
