St Chads .. Help us help the community

Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of ST CHAD'S COMMUNITY PROJECT and every donation will help. We’ve already started responding to the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have helped 65 families within the first week, but we need urgent financial support to be able to respond quicker and in a sustained way.  I thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

The background of St Chad’s Community Project

St. Chad’s Community Project is an inclusive service which has provided opportunities to the community over the last 30 years, for personal and social development whilst also building confidence, creating independence and, very importantly, challenging disadvantage.  Building  a belief in the self and in the community by delivering a range of preventative, integrated services to develop potential and improve life chances … an approach which continues to help our local community, many of whom are living on low incomes in one of the most deprived areas in England.  Our projects have helped the local community in different ways, always aiming to provide ongoing, sustainable support that creates an impact from newborn babies into adulthood. We offer services such as affordable childcare, family support, educational courses and many different groups and children’s clubs.

Our base is in Gateshead which is an area with a high level of deprivation.  Our support through food vouchers and emergency food parcels is invaluable to many of our families which ease’s the tension in the family unit, allowing for a safer and healthier environment for their children to thrive.

Response to the COVID-19 pandemic

Our resources are becoming increasingly stretched as we respond to the needs of the current situation.  There are new, daily demands where we need to be reactive, especially to the acute needs of the elderly, families, children and young people. The issues to which we normally respond in terms of emergency and ongoing support for families are currently exacerbated by the effects of this pandemic as families wait for financial support and become more isolated because of the loss of their usual social networks which often, sadly, impacts on the needs, health and wellbeing of them and that of their children.  Our usual emergency responses now have to be quicker whilst at the same time reaching a wider clientele, putting our usual resources and responses under much more pressure.   Added to this, is the uncertainty around the timescale for these increased needs. Having flexibility of available funds to increase our provision and meet the unplanned expenditure which is required would be a positive and effective way forward and would allow us to successfully respond to these increased demands on our services.

Your donation

**No donation is too small - every £1 helps **

Your donation will help us to provide food and support to those whose situation is being exacerbated by the impact of the COVID-19 virus.  People who would normally be identified as ‘at risk’ or vulnerable would receive this support, providing the elderly and families with food, toiletries, nappies, baby milk & food and equipment.  Our aim is to widen our services to those in need because of the effect and wider impact this emergency situation is creating.  The need is growing daily.

We will continue to give practical and emergency support, through the delivery of emergency supplies and food parcels which we launched at the start of the crisis #chadsdoorstepangelsofthenorth.

Support the mental wellbeing of our clients and people who are suffering as a result of the crisis by easing the strain on their already stretched finances.

Help us to sustain our services so that we are there to serve the community and their needs when we come through this crisis.

*Money raised through this appeal will go directly towards funding St Chad’s Community Project’s  response to supporting people affected by COVID – 19.  If we raise more funds than are needed for this appeal, or if the needs of people change as a result of the crisis, we will apply any money raised to where the needs are greatest within our purpose to support the community
