First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to learn about who we are and our mission to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs around the world.
United Therapeutic Alliances in a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals including Speech-Language Pathologist, Alyssa Holguin, M.S. CCC-SLP, Behavioral Consultant, Miguel Holguin, M.A., BCBA, occupational therapists, Kelli Smith, M.S. OTR/L, Kaitlynn Hunker, M.S. OTR/L, and Jennifer DeRoss, COTA. We are committed to our mission: to create a model where teams collaboratively work to bring a holistic approach to improving the quality of life of children around the world who have unique needs through professional development and hands-on learning for the success and sustainability of school and community programs.
While speaking with a family friend, United Therapeutic Alliances member, Jennifer DeRoss heard of Every Child Counts, an all special needs school located on the small island of Marsh Harbor, Bahamas. Every Child Counts is a school with limited resources and accessibility to school materials. The staff is primarily made of volunteers without formal education or training who are passionate about providing these children with special needs with the education and opportunities they deserve. The location of the school has geographical barriers to accessing resources, as import and exports is a costly and a difficult process.
Our goal is to raise funds to support our efforts on our pilot program for a week long intensive training with Every Child Counts in the Bahamas. Any donations will be geared towards staff education and development, materials and supplies needed, as well as working directly with the children to ensure sustained success. Our occupational therapy team will be educating the school’s team on sensory processing, neuro-development, postural control and alignment, and motor skill development. Our speech therapy team will be addressing expressive and receptive language, social and play skills, and functional communication skills for all levels from non-verbal to verbal students. Our behavioral team will be working to help set up environmental strategies and addressing challenging behaviors that impede on each student reaching their full learning potential.
The United Therapeutic Alliances team would like to thank you in advance for your support! Your contribution will help numerous children living with the challenges of autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and many other disorders as well as the teams that work with them on a daily basis to help them reach their fullest potential in life. Without your generosity, we would not be able to share our passions and expertise with these wonderful children, volunteers, and professionals in need.
Warmest regards and sincerest gratitude,
United Therapeutic Alliances
