Help SK Elementary build a new playground!

South Kelowna Elementary is getting a new play structure!!

Funding from the Ministry of Education for new playgrounds is granted on a cyclical basis, and SKE's turn is up!  The Ministry has allotted $165,000 towards the new play structure, however we anticipate the costs running upwards of $200,000, based on additional costs to tear down, purchase and install the new equipment.  The SKE PAC is reaching out to all SKE families to ask for help by donating - to ensure we can cover all the costs of the new structure.  Our goal is to raise $50,000, and we need all the help we can get!

We have a proposal going out in the next month to get quotes and rendering's of the new structure. We are working with a professional through the school district who has experience in putting these proposals together and has given us rough estimates to go on. The requirements for receiving the $165,000 is that we only have until March 31, 2022 to build the structure. We will need to be prepared with our total budget for the project in the next couple of months.

The new structure will replace the old playground located on the kindergarten side of the school, near the secondary parking lot. Our goal is to ensure it meets requirements for accessibility for all, including anyone with disabilities. Careful thought and planning is going into the type of equipment that makes play easy and safe for all ages. Sensory, color schemes, and equipment kids love to use such as swings, climbing, gliding and monkeying are all being considered into this new playground.


Below are some sample photos of the types of play structures we hope to be able to include.   Our proposal and quotes will determine the final designs and equipment choices based on what we can afford.  These are just general examples for reference.  Unfortunately we do not have time to wait until we get our actual renderings before we start to fundraise.


Future projects we are also working towards include replacing basketball hoops, purchasing metal sit-on diggers in the sandbox area, plus benches.  If we can raise enough, we may be able to do it all!!
