HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY TO SOS Las Tumbas!

WOW!! Since we started on August 1, 2019, we’ve responded to 335 trauma, medical and informational calls. And we owe it all to the Go Fund Me donations and local fundraisers that have allowed us, through the years, to buy the equipment, materials and training we needed to make us the bang-up first aid team that we are today.

SOS Las Tumbas serves in a remote rural mountain area of Costa Rica. Sometimes it can take up to several hours for an ambulance to arrive since they are so far out or otherwise occupied. Our group, trained by the Pérez Zeledón Red Cross, provides critical first aid in the interim.

I remember what a leap of faith it was when we first started attending emergencies. We had the knowledge and the practice, but still, holding the lives of others in your hands is a fearsome responsibility and we always head out silently asking that our hearts, our hands, and our minds be guided by a force greater than our own. All the practicing and studying is well worth it when we see the smile of relief when we get there and hear the words of gratitude from patients we attended.

People frequently ask if they can donate to SOS. I always say, “Wait till we run a campaign. We’ll let you know when we get low on funds.” Well, that time is now. Our funds are extremely LOW, and SOS Las Tumbas needs to do a ‘refill’ on our accounts.

Since our campaign last year, we’ve paid for more trainings, new equipment, more materials, outfitted new members, and branched out into oxygen therapy as a part of our emergency treatment.

Lately, we have had a flurry of expenses. Currently, we are down to just 46,808.64 colones (around $88.95) in our Costa Rica SOS bank account and $71.74 (around 37,751 colones) in our US SOS bank account. And we still have some big expenses coming up at the end of this month and in September. Our volunteer organization relies completely on donations to keep going. So, if you are in a position to donate, please do! Every little bit counts!

FELIZ QUINTO ANIVERSARIO A SOS LAS TUMBAS!

Desde que iniciamos, en el 1 de Agosto, 2019, hemos respondido a 335 emergencias de trauma, médico, y llamadas de consulta. Nos hace sentir muy feliz reconocer que nada de esto habría pasado sin la fé y las donaciones que recibimos para comprar todo el equipo y conseguir mas y mas capacitación para llegar a ser un excelente equipo de primeros auxilios.

Recuerdo como sentimos al principio cuando empezamos de atender a emergencias. Tuvimos el conocimiento y la práctica que nos dio la Cruz Roja, pero aún así, sujetando la vida de otros en las manos suyas es un gran responsabilidad, y siempre salimos pidiendo que nuestros corazones, manos, y mentes sean guiado por una fuerza mas grande que lo nuestro. Todo el tiempo que dedicamos a practicar, estudiar, y atender a emergencias es todo gratificante cuando veamos los gestos de alivio al llegar a la escena y escuchamos las palabras de gratitud de las pacientes que atendemos.

Muchas veces la gente nos pide si puede donar a SOS. Siempre digo, “Les avisaremos cuando tenemos pocos fondos. Puede esperar hasta que realizamos una campaña.” Pues, ya ha llegado la hora. SOS Las Tumbas necesita hacer una “rellena” de nuestras cuentas bancarias.

Desde la campaña que realizamos hace un año, hemos usado las donaciones para pagar mas capacitaciones, nuevo equipo, nuevos materiales, y para alquilar los tanques, materiales, y capacitación para empezar a usar terapia de oxígeno como parte de nuestro tratamiento de emergencia.

Recientemente hemos tenido que hacer muchas compras, de entrenamiento y materiales. Actualmente nos queda 46.808,64 colones (como $88.95) en nuestra cuenta bancaria de BCR y $71.74 (como 37.751,00 colones) en nuestra cuenta bancaria de los Estados Unidos. Y todavía hay mas gastos grandes que vienen en el fin de este mes y en septiembre. Nuestra organización de voluntarios depende completamente en donaciones para continuar. Asi que, si pueden donar, por favor, hágalo! No importa si es una donación grande o pequeña!
