My mother Laurie Zappulla, suffered a spinal cord injury at the age of 17 and was told by doctors that she wouldn’t walk again. She miraculously was able to walk again within 100 days. Now at age 62, she is now facing her greatest challenge: Stage 4 bladder cancer. Laurie is now undergoing chemotherapy under the care of the University of Miami oncology clinic. The treatments, tumor, and the cancer have had an adverse effect on her and has affected her ability to move from waist down. She needs home health care, that my dads insurance will not cover. My dad is currently taken off from work to care for her but this is becoming financially unsustainable. The funds that come in will be used to offset the costs for in home health care and the out of pocket co pay insurance expenses to cover the chemotherapy & medical treatments.
