Some people in your life are always there for you. They show up without you asking - even if they don't know you. That describes Somerville's Nonato family. If you've been to their family-owned restaurant, Rei Da Picanha, you've been showered by their love. The Nonato family builds relationships with and supports Somerville's unhoused population, and they've been quietly doing this for years.

It is our turn to help and return their kindness. Unfortunately, Rei Da Picanha—which was open on Broadway in East Somerville for 15 years—was destroyed by a devastating fire that affected their block on the night on Monday, October 12. Losing the restaurant means the family lost their income and their ability to cover the immediate costs of daily life and emergencies. They now face the daunting reality of starting over again.

This is a family who has poured love into others for years. Now they need that same kindness to come back to them. Every donation, every share, every message of support will help them stay on their feet and help them get back to doing what they do best: loving and supporting the Somerville community.

Thank you for standing with the Nonato family during the difficult time they are facing.
