Help Slow Matter Studio Find a New Home

Last weekend we hosted our very first fundraiser event for Slow Matter Studio to help us get up and going, and it was beautiful. Artists, neighbors, friends, and families all came out to support this little pottery studio we’re trying to build. The space was full of people buying art, creating pottery, eating food from local vendors, and connecting with each other. It felt like the beginning of something really special.

Unfortunately, partway through the night our landlord unexpectedly shut the event down. A few days later, I received a Notice of Default and possible eviction for hosting the event, which means the future of the studio in its current location is now uncertain. It’s been devastating, but the incredible support from this community has been keeping me going and I'm determined to continue this dream.

I’ll be honest- this has been one of the most stressful weeks of my life. I’ve poured everything I have emotionally, physically, and financially into opening this studio. I’m a single mom raising a three year-old while trying to build something meaningful for this community, and the thought of losing it before it even has the chance to begin is heartbreaking. But seeing all of you show up, buy tickets, share posts, and tell me how much this space matters has given me the courage to keep going and find a way forward.

Because of this situation, I now have to relocate the studio, whether that means finding another small studio space or a nearby warehouse that could allow Slow Matter to grow into something even bigger for the community.

But moving and rebuilding everything whether small or large comes with significant costs. Between relocating equipment, installing kilns, rebuilding workspaces, and covering expenses during the transition, the upfront investment is substantial.

I am hoping to raise $40,000 that will help us:
* Relocate into the new location
* Cover rent & deposit
* Rebuild pottery workstations and shelving
* Move and install kilns and equipment
* Cover temporary income lose during the transition period

My hope is that Slow Matter becomes more than just a pottery studio — a place where artists, neighbors, and families in Long Beach can come together to create and connect.

If you believe in supporting artists, small businesses, and community spaces, any contribution or share helps us take this next step.

I am eternally grateful for everyone's support. I’m not sure what I did to deserve so much love and support, but please know how deeply grateful I am for each and every one of you that have stopped by to say hi, checked in on me, offered help, shared my story, bought merch, donated money, and everything in between.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting this dream and helping keep Slow Matter alive.

Sincerely,
Eloise, Owner
