Help Sisters Reunite with Colombian Birth Mom

UPDATE:

My sister Jess has made the extremely tough decision to stay home after losing her wife. However, I will still be going in November with my husband and mother in law.

In the future we will plan a trip all together again.

Hello Everyone,

Unexpectedly my eldest sister, Jessica's wife passed away leaving her WITHOUT childcare for her twin boys. We have explored every option and Jessica will not be able to go if we do not raise enough to cover their flights/passports. We know these times are hard with everything going on but if possible we are trying to raise enough before our trip in November.

Our birth mother has had some significant health struggles, as well as myself (Melissa-as I will most likely need to undergo surgery for my endometriosis for the third time later this year) so we cannot reschedule the trip for a later date at this time.

We deeply appreciate every single contribution.

Hi, my name is Melissa, and I was adopted from Colombia in 1993. I found my two sisters (Sara & Jessica) through 23andMe a few years ago. We knew that we had a least one sibling in Colombia but were shocked to find that we three had been adopted into families in the United States.

Our birth mother, Sandra, has had a very difficult life. She did her best to care for her children and placed us three for adoption to give us a better life, but even so, she has felt so much guilt for placing us for adoption. We try to connect over Whatsapp but it isn't easy to connect with a very wonky internet connection where they live.

She developed several health issues and has been in and out of the hospital this year. We are very worried about her well-being.

Funding a trip, paying for childcare, and time off work is challenging, so we are creating this fundraiser to help make it possible for us to meet each other for the first time and reunite with our birth mother and siblings in Colombia (also for the first time).

Hizo todo lo posible por cuidar a sus hijos y nos dio a los tres en adopción para darnos una vida mejor, pero aún así, se ha sentido muy culpable por darnos en adopción. Intentamos conectarnos a través de Whatsapp, pero no es fácil conectarse con una conexión a Internet muy inestable donde viven.

Desarrolló varios problemas de salud y ha estado entrando y saliendo del hospital este año. Estamos muy preocupados por su bienestar.

Financiar un viaje, pagar el cuidado de los niños y el tiempo libre del trabajo es un desafío, por lo que estamos creando esta recaudación de fondos para ayudar a que podamos conocernos por primera vez y reunirnos con nuestra madre biológica y hermanos en Colombia (también para el primera vez).
