Help Single Mom Avoid Homelessness After Layoff

Hello, Indianapolis/Lawrence/Geist/McCordsville Community and beyond,
My name is Rosie. I’m a single mother of two, and I’m humbly reaching out for support during an incredibly difficult time.
In May 2024, I moved my children and me to Indiana after accepting a promising role in Indianapolis. I hold a BS in Management with a concentration in Human Resources, an MBA, and I’m currently working toward a doctorate in Business Administration with a focus in Education. I have over 12 years of corporate retail experience in finance and strategy.
Unfortunately, after just eight months, the company decided to part ways with me amicably. I received a severance package and immediately used it to cover three months of rent while aggressively applying for jobs. Despite my qualifications, the job market has been brutal. I’ve applied to dozens of positions—both those I’m qualified and overqualified for—but haven’t had success. I even made it to the final round of interviews for a position in Miami, only to lose it to an internal candidate.
To make matters worse, I was denied unemployment benefits because I hadn’t worked in Indiana long enough, and local assistance programs (including the Trustee’s office and Eastern Star) are either at capacity or can’t support my unique situation. I’ve also contacted 211 and other resources, but there’s little available right now.
My rent for May is $1,950 ($2,150 with fees), and I’m now at risk of eviction. There’s also a $15/day late fee that is quickly adding up. I’ve set this GoFundMe goal at $2,550 to account for those late fees and the processing fees GoFundMe takes out.
This rent was completely manageable when I was earning $95K/year. But now, it’s simply impossible.
I’ve arranged for my kids to stay with my mother over the summer—she’s retired and can’t help financially, but at least they’ll be safe and stable. As for me, l will be ok. I can manage sleeping in my car or a shelter while I find my next opportunity either here in Indiana or elsewhere. I just don’t want to take my children through that trauma.
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Asking for help is never easy. But I’m doing it for my kids and their stability.
If you’re able to contribute—whether it’s $5 or $500—please know that it will help keep a roof over our heads for just a little longer while I get back on my feet. Every donation, every share, every kind word means more than you know.
Thank you for your time, your compassion, and your support.
With gratitude,
Rosie
