Help Shawnita & Amiyah Find Safe Shelter

My name is Shawnita, and I’m currently living in Fayetteville, NC with my 11-year-old daughter, Amiyah Matthews. Earlier this year, I moved into a new home, hoping to build a stable life for us. But just a few weeks later, I was in a car accident that totaled my vehicle and left me unable to get to work. At the same time, I lost my job as a caregiver when my client passed away. Without transportation, I couldn’t find new work right away, and we quickly lost our home.

Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to keep us safe. I now work at Jimmy John’s and Zaxby’s, but without a car, it’s a daily struggle to get to work and make sure Amiyah gets to school. There are no shelters available in our area, so we’ve had to sleep outside at times—including on Amiyah’s birthday. When I can, I pay for hotel stays so we have a roof over our heads, but it’s hard to keep up with the costs and provide food for us both.

I’m raising funds to cover at least two months of hotel stays and food for Amiyah and me. This support will give us the stability we need while I continue working and saving for a permanent home and reliable transportation. Every donation will help us stay safe, keep Amiyah in school, and move closer to rebuilding our lives.
