Help Shawn Support Nomad Clinic 2019!

Donation protected
This year in September I'll be returning to Nepal with the Nomad Clinic to bring much needed medical support to remote villages in the Humla region; including the nomadic areas under Mount Saipal and Mount Api, and the so-called "untouchable" villages near Dojam. Now that I've made this journey once last year in the Dolpo region I have a much deeper appreciation for how desperately Nepali and Tibetan people in remote places need this medical support. These areas are only reachable by foot at high elevations. Last year we walked over 170 miles across terrain ranging from 6,600' to 18,300' (2000m to 5550m) and saw over 1000 patients in six different clinic locations, and numerous smaller clinics along the way.

This is my second year making this journey with about 23 western medical practitioners and dozens of incredible Nepali people. My job (among the many other things that come up) will be helping run the pharmacy this year. I have months of physical training ahead of me along with logistics and prep for organizing the hundreds of medications, glasses, reusable menstrual kits and more. On clinic days making sure everything is tracked properly and handed out to doctors efficiently is essential to making sure everyone who needs medical attention gets it before we pack up and hike to the next village.

It's a true honor and joy to serve in Nepal and work with our amazing Nepali friends.

One of the big reasons I can make this journey again is the financial support from friends and family last year easing the financial burden of the 2018 trip. I was hesitant to ask, but their encouragement (and getting over my pride) meant that when we sat down to budget for this year we felt confident we'd make it work.

This is a charitable mission so I pay my own way to fly to Nepal, cover costs of food, guides, personal equipment and insurance. The total amount listed here is my total cost for the whole trip. I'm not expecting to cover the whole thing, but thought it'd be easiest to be up front with our budget. If for some crazy reason we hit the goal, any overage will go directly to services that support Nepali people in need.

Last year I whispered the names of every person who gave on the highest mountain pass (18,000 feet up) and offered deep gratitude and well wishes. Taking a moment to honor that was a moving, connective experience for me. I'll be doing that again with a tremendous amount of joy in my heart. I'll even record it if the wind isn't too crazy ;)

Thanks so much for reading and for your support! I'll keep everyone up to date with the latest happenings.
