My name is Shawn Roberts, and I’m a 54-year-old father doing everything I can to stay connected with my daughter, Justice. For most of her life, I’ve raised her on my own, teaching her to cook, taking her skating, fishing, and letting her pick our favorite places to eat. She’s been my world since she was eight months old. Earlier this year, her mother moved her out of North Carolina to Connecticut, and it’s been heartbreaking not being able to see her every day. Justice will be nine this year, and I want nothing more than to be there for her, just as I promised I always would.
I work as a cook on a military base, commuting 35 miles each way in a 2001 Honda that’s barely holding on. My check engine light has been flashing for months, and I’m constantly making repairs just to keep it running. Every dollar I spend fixing my car is a dollar I can’t send to Justice. I don’t have immediate family who can help, and my friends and coworkers have their own challenges. I’ve always tried to handle things on my own, but now my back is against the wall.
I’m reaching out for help so I can get a reliable car. This would not only let me keep my job and continue supporting Justice, but it would also give me the chance to travel the 600 miles to see her. Being able to visit would mean everything to both of us. I want Justice to know that her dad will always do whatever it takes to be there for her and make sure she’s safe and cared for. Any support you can give will help bring us back together and give me the chance to keep my promise to my little girl.
