My name is Sharon Broomfield. I am a US veteran, and as of yesterday, my son and I are homeless. My son struggles with mental illness, and we have nowhere to go and no money to get by. I work the night shift from 11pm to 7:30am, but without my own transportation, I rely on Uber and Lyft, which quickly becomes expensive. Despite working, I couldn't keep up with rent and late fees, and eventually, my lease was terminated after a 15-day notice. Last night, my son and I stayed outside a Racetrac store, unsure of what to do next.
Family has not been able to help, especially since my son's diagnosis. It feels like we are alone in this, and I am doing everything I can to keep us safe and together. My biggest concern is making sure my son has a stable place to stay and that I can continue going to work. I can't leave him alone, and we need a safe environment to get back on our feet.
I am asking for a little help from anyone who can support us. My hope is to lease a room at a Stayable Hotel for six months, which would allow me to walk to work and provide my son with the stability he needs. Any support you can give means the world to us and will help us move forward during this difficult time.
