Hello,

My name is Ajit, and I currently reside in Chicago, although my roots trace back to Shankarnagar, Butwal, Nepal. As my birthday approaches, I want to honor someone who has profoundly influenced my identity: Sharada. Whether it was dressing me up in a Saree and taking me to dance competitions or letting me try her kurta and Shawl, Sharada did not leave my side until I was 10 years old, which was when I moved to Kathmandu with my parents. Living in Ranibagiya, Nepal, with her husband and a son, Sharada works tirelessly as an office helper in the surgical ward of Lumbini Provincial Hospital.

Sharada embodies resilience and compassion. She has faced unimaginable challenges, including the loss of both her parents at just five years old and significant hardships throughout her life. Yet, through it all, she has remained an unwavering beacon of hope and strength.

Recently, Sharada achieved the remarkable milestone of building a small home—the only asset in her and her husband’s name. While the house stands as a testament to her hard work, it is made from steel plates, which they could afford. The conditions inside can be extreme: during the scorching summers in Butwal, temperatures can soar to nearly 40 degrees Celsius, while winters bring a biting cold.

This year, I hope to raise $500 for my birthday, an amount I plan to give entirely to Sharada. She intends to use this money to install wooden platforms on her roof, a simple yet effective solution that will drastically reduce the heat in the summer and provide warmth in the winter, creating a more comfortable living environment for her and her husband.
