Help Bring Local Control to North Lake Tahoe

Support the effort to place a town incorporation measure on the November 2026 ballot.

In Fall 2022, a small group of concerned community leaders came together with a shared question:

What if North Tahoe had the power to make its own decisions?

That question launched what has now become a grassroots movement — one that’s gaining powerful momentum. Together, we formed Eastern Placer Future, a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization focused on exploring the incorporation of a new town in the North Lake Tahoe area of Eastern Placer County.

Right now, all of our local communities — from Tahoe City and Kings Beach to Alpine Meadows and Northstar — are governed by a County Board of Supervisors where only one of five members lives in Eastern Placer. With each census, our representation shrinks, and our voice in county decision-making grows fainter.

If we want a future where our region thrives — we need to take action now.

What We’ve Done So Far

Over the past two years, we’ve been hard at work building the foundation for incorporation:

✅ We completed an Initial Fiscal Feasibility Review, which confirmed that forming a town is financially viable.

✅ We conducted a scientific community survey that showed over 60% support for the idea — and that support jumped to 70% when people understood what incorporation would mean.

✅ We formed a 501(c)(4) nonprofit to lead the effort, filed required legal documents, and began outreach across the region.

✅ We raised over $105,000 to fund these early steps through grassroots donations from more than 125 community members.

This has always been a community-driven effort — and now we’re entering the most critical stage yet.

What Comes Next — and Why We Need Your Help

In order to place a measure on the November 2026 ballot to let voters decide whether to create a town, we must complete a petition drive. We need to gather at least 2,200 verified signatures from registered voters within the proposed boundaries — and we only have 6 months to do it once we begin.

To ensure we succeed, we need to raise $150,000 immediately. This will fund:

A professional petition consultant and training for volunteers

Legal fees to complete the formal incorporation application

Widespread community outreach to ensure every resident and business is informed and engaged

Without this funding, we risk missing our deadline — which would not only delay the effort beyond 2026, but dramatically increase costs due to the need for a special election.

That’s the vision we’re fighting for. And it’s not a new idea — the Town of Truckee did something similar 30 years ago and has since created a thriving model of local governance while continuing to collaborate with their county partners.

Creating a town doesn’t mean we’ll do everything alone. But it does mean we’ll have the power to decide which services are managed locally, which are contracted through the County, and how our community’s tax dollars are used to serve our community.

Eastern Placer Future is led by long-time North Tahoe residents — business owners, special district officials, community volunteers, and local leaders who care deeply about this place. We know the challenges our region faces. And we know the opportunity in front of us is real.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about making sure decisions that affect our daily lives are made by people who understand our needs and are committed to building a sustainable future for generations to come.
