My name is Lateisha, and I’m raising funds to help cover the legal costs of probate after the passing of my father, James Evans Muhammad. My dad was a dedicated teacher and civil rights activist who worked hard to make a difference in our community. When he passed away last year, I returned to the US with nothing, hoping to lay his affairs to rest and honor his legacy. Adjusting to life back home has been challenging—I struggled to find a job and a place to live, and now I’m facing another move.
The probate process has been especially difficult because my dad’s will was lost, and navigating that has been overwhelming. The legal fees are more than I can manage alone, and it’s been over a year of trying to resolve his estate. Getting this help would relieve a huge financial burden and allow me to finally move forward.
My relationship with my dad wasn’t always perfect, but in his final years, we focused on healing and moving forward together. I want to honor that progress by closing this chapter with dignity. Any support will help me settle his affairs and find some peace after a long, difficult journey.
