Stock Homeless Essentials - The Underground Depot

For the past year, Craig and I have seen firsthand how the houseless problem in Kansas City and the surrounding areas has only gotten worse. We've also seen how so many members of our community step up to provide needed resources to those who don't have their basic needs met. Over and over we've seen volunteers feed, clothe and provide supplies to those that need help. Often, these items are purchased by these caring individuals so they can make a difference. We've heard countless stories of people lining up at the Salvation Army early to get sale prices on coats and jeans to give out at homeless camps. We've watched as these same people start group texts to see what they can drum up as the weather gets colder.  I've watched them spring into action when someone needs a pair of coveralls for a potential job opportunity or for Christmas gifts when they've heard of a family who will have none.

These volunteers, sometimes part of a larger group, and sometimes just a small pack of people who want to make a difference, use their own money, contacts and time to make all of this happen. They are of course limited in how effective they can be due to this.

Craig and I have been honored to help where we can, but we've also realized that this process could be so much easier for the groups/volunteers who spent their time delivering needed items to the homeless camps.  What if these volunteers/groups/churches had a place they could go to stock up on items without having to spend their own money? What if we could leverage our experience in importing and wholesale purchasing to get a much better deal on these items? (Most of the items these volunteers give out come from local stores or big online retailers.) What if we set up a warehouse where they could just come and grab and go with items like tents, sleeping bags, first aid supplies, batteries, flashlights and more? Wouldn't they have more time & energy to devote to the crisis at hand? And, thus, The Underground Depot (a Kansas non-profit corporation) was born.

You may have heard that two houseless people died this month in Kansas City. The bitter cold in our area is devastating to those without shelter. Please help us provide tents, sleeping bags, coats, gloves, hand warmers and more to those in our community who need these items to survive.

We hope you can help.
