My legal name is Roger, I go by my religious name, Sergius. I am reaching out for help for myself and my fifteen-year-old fictive daughter, Serenity, of whom I have custody. Recently, our lives were complicated and made more dangerous when we became homeless due to domestic abuse from my ex, who we were staying with. The situation escalated quickly, and just a day after I gave her money to help with rent and utilities, Serenity and I found ourselves with nowhere to go. We spent one night in a van, trying to keep each other safe, and are now staying in a hotel.
Despite everything, Serenity is doing well except for the housing situation. I am able to get her to school, doctors’ appointments, church, and jiu-jitsu, and she is staying strong through all of this. My income, along with odd jobs, donating plasma, help from my Church and hers, and public resources, are covering our food, medical needs, and transportation. Housing is our only struggle right now. We also have counseling and case management support to help us through this time.
I am doing everything I can to find a more stable solution—I am on waiting lists for the Salvation Army family dorm, Safe Alliance, and an emergency section eight voucher. However, these resources take time, and we need immediate support to avoid returning to unsafe conditions. We are seeking affordable temporary housing, and I am able to pay modest rent starting March 1st. If any local landlords are able to help, I would be grateful to hear from you. Any support you can offer will help Serenity and me stay safe and keep her life as stable as possible. Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
