Help Sensei Harry Rebuild The Dojo
My name is Josie, and I'm the mom of one of Sensei's students at 'The Dojo' of Greenville. On August 4th, the Dixie Fire burnt down Sensei's home, along with the school where he was employed as a 'Confidence & Conditioning Coach,' as well as the Community Center that housed The Dojo.
When I told Sensei we wanted to put together a fundraiser for him, he told us, "Not for me. We need to rebuild The Dojo first." That is totally Sensei. For five years, he has taught children and teens Judo in Greenville, staying late to help kids through their challenges, and even traveling with them (at his own expense) to tournaments as far away as Georgia. There is nothing Sensei Harry wouldn't do for his students.
Sensei is committed to re-opening The Dojo and restarting his Confidence and Conditioning classes as soon as possible (in a different space until the Community Center is rebuilt), but he needs help to purchase the equipment lost in the fire, such as mats, boxing equipment, educational aids, etc. If we raise a little extra to help supplement his income until he gets back on his feet, I think we can convince him to accept it.
There is so much hurt and loss in Greenville. When children begin to return, they will need the physical and mental support of this incredible martial arts program more than ever. There are churches and private facilities still standing where he can re-open, as long as he has the equipment to do so. Let's come through for Sensei and help him start over after this disaster. Kiai!!
