Help Senait Visit Their Homeland Ethiopia and Give Back

Update from Sunny:

“Hey everyone, I want to express my deepest gratitude for everyone's donations so far. After being here in Addis and witnessing the need and resilience for myself in this beautiful city I have decided to donate 100% of the money raised to Tikur Anbessa Hospital.
This trip is changing me in ways I can’t fully put into words yet, but I know this: your support has made a real difference. Thank you for loving me and for showing up for a community you may never meet but are now forever connected to.
If you feel called, please keep sharing! Every donation, repost, and words of encouragement - it all matters.
With all the love and gratitude in my soul, Senait.”

Hi friends, Our beloved Senait (Sunny to many of us!) is going back to Ethiopia for the first time since immigrating to the U.S. as a toddler through the Diversity Visa Lottery in 1995. This trip means so much! Not only is it their first time reconnecting in-person with family and the land they came from, but it’s also a chance to honor their late sister Aeden, who passed recently. Senait is carrying a lock of Aeden’s hair to bury with their grandmother, connecting generations of love and loss.

While this journey is deeply personal, Senait also wants to give back to the community that they were born in. They are dedicating a portion of this fundraiser to Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, the only cancer center in Ethiopia serving patients across East Africa. Understandably, the hospital is overrun and under-resourced, many patients sleep in the streets between treatments. The donation will support efforts to build shelter for those patients so no one has to recover without a place to rest.

Funds raised will go toward Senait’s travel expenses, and anything beyond that will be donated directly to Tikur Anbessa’s shelter initiative.

Even if you can’t donate, a share goes a long way. Let’s help Senait get to Ethiopia safely, honor their sister and ancestors, and give back to a community that still holds deep meaning and connection for them.

Thank you so much for being part of this journey.
