Help Keep Our Local Food Pantry Thriving: A Blessing to Our Community Since 1962
For more than 60 years, The Bread Basket food pantry located in Newport, TN, has been a place of hope, compassion, and support for families facing difficult times. Since opening our doors in 1962, we have served our community with one simple mission: no one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from.
Our pantry has already endured tremendous hardship as a result of Hurricane Helene and the devastating flooding that ensued, Our former facility suffered a total loss. Despite that setback, our volunteers, supporters, and community rallied together. Through determination and God's grace, we reopened in a new location in October, 2025 and continued serving families who needed help more than ever.
Now we face another critical moment.
We have the opportunity—and the necessity—to purchase the building that houses our pantry. The building is listed to be sold for over $300,000, a portion of which has already been raised. We continue to pray that the additional funds will be provided to secure the pantry's future and continue to serve the growing need.
Every month the organization provides food assistance to more than 450 families. Each food box contains enough food for at least 10 meals, helping parents, seniors, veterans, and children put meals on their tables. Families are also able to choose two essential non-food items such as hygiene products, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and other necessities that many assistance programs do not provide.
Last year alone, we distributed more than 13,000 food boxes to families in need.
Our impact extends beyond monthly assistance:
• 750 Thanksgiving meal boxes were provided to families during the holiday season.
• 450 Christmas meal boxes were distributed, including toys for children, to help make Christmas a little brighter.
• Countless lives have been touched through compassion, encouragement, and community support.
We are a Christian-based organization founded on Faith, love, and service. Every Thursday before opening our doors, our volunteers gather to pray for our community, our clients, and one another. We offer personal prayer to those in need, but food, hospitality, and respect are given to everyone regardless of faith, background, or circumstance. Hunger does not discriminate, and neither do we.
Without securing this building, the future of our pantry is uncertain. This fundraiser is about more than purchasing a structure—it is about preserving a ministry, protecting a community resource, and ensuring that hundreds of families continue to receive the help they depend on every month.
If every person who believes in this mission, has ever been touched by this pantry, or simply wants to help their neighbors, is able to make a contribution, we can and will reach this goal together.
Please consider becoming a part of this miracle by making a donation and lifting up this great community. Every dollar and every positive comment, brings us one step closer to answering the call and continuing a legacy of service that began in 1962.
Most importantly, we ask for your prayers. Pray for the families we serve, for the volunteers who faithfully give their time, and for the success of this campaign.
With God's help we can ensure that hope, nourishment, and compassion remain available for our community for many years to come.
Thank you for standing with us.
