Help Secure the Future of COVEN – A New Queer Space

Donation protected
COVEN is a new queer club and multidisciplinary arts venue in Queen’s Yard, Hackney Wick. Since opening on June 19th, we’ve welcomed thousands of people, thrown unforgettable parties, staged powerful performances - and been featured in British Vogue and Dazed for reclaiming nightlife as ritual, resistance, and joy.

We’ve already built so much:

A music venue with a high-spec backline (generously lent to us), where we’ve hosted incredible gigs.

Club nights — mostly in-house — that have become instant fixtures, with plans to collaborate more with the queer collectives who’ve supported us from day one.

Classes/Events - Our line dancing class with STRUT sells out every time, and AFTERLIFE (queer life drawing) has built a loyal attendance every week.

Upcoming wellness and support programmes - free group therapy for the trans community, a six-week chemsex recovery workshop, and queer self-defence classes, through our future partnerships with ELOP, London Friend, and Spectra. We'll also be offering free sexual health screenings - creating a hub for people to get tested and receive treatment without long wait times.

A Community Hub - We are the home for House of Telfar, and we'll be expanding our residency programme to include other queer collectives, offering a space to create for free.

The Future - We are working with The Common Press to turn our terrace into a coffeeshop during the day, and will be launching COVEN co-work, making use of our 2400 square foot space as an affordable hub for creatives in East London and beyond.

Now, we’ve been offered the chance to take over the lease and secure COVEN’s long-term future. Right now, under our free-rent agreement, the landlord keeps all bar profits. By taking on the lease, we keep 100% of bar revenue — money that can be reinvested directly back into our community. This is our chance to build something rare in London: a space that’s community-led and community-funded, without the need for “dark money” investment.

We need to raise at least £40,000 to cover:

Lease takeover costs (legal fees, first rent instalments, essential overheads).

Staffing (Our founder Matthew has carried most of the operational load with the help of friends — now it’s time to grow the team).

Accessibility (expanding D/deaf raves, sober nights, and inclusion initiatives).

Wellness and community programmes (therapy, recovery, self-defence, and more).

COVEN was literally built from the ground up — with recycled materials, sweat, resilience, and love. It’s already a sanctuary where performance, nightlife, and kinship collide.

But to keep the cauldron bubbling, we need your help.

Your support will help us:

Keep COVEN in queer hands.

Create stable jobs and fair pay.

Make accessibility and wellness central to our mission.

Protect and grow a permanent queer cultural hub in East London.

Every donation is a spell cast for queer survival, joy, and community. Whether you can give £5 or £500, you’ll be helping us secure the future of this vital space.

Thank you for believing in COVEN - and in the magic we’re building together.
