I accidentally created an email honeypot.
In 2020, I registered noreply.us because I thought it was funny and as a privacy experiment. I didn’t expect it to become a black hole for sensitive data. Over time, I started receiving emails meant for other people, and eventually, entire organizations.
Now, noreply.com is for sale for $245,000.
Buying it would let me prevent future leaks at scale and turn a systemic mistake into something safer, educational, and transparent.
What Happens If We Don’t Hit the Goal or there are extra funds
If we do not reach the funding goal or the purchase of the domain falls through , all funds raised will be donated in full to Portland Hacker Foundation (pdxhf.org).
Portland Hacker Foundation is a Portland-based nonprofit focused on:
- Community education
- Hands-on technical learning
- Hardware hacking, electronics, and security research
- Making technology more accessible and less mysterious
The same curiosity and experimentation that led to this accidental honeypot is exactly what organizations like PDXHF exist to support.
This ensures:
- Your contribution always supports the community
- No partial or ambiguous outcomes
- No scenario where funds quietly drift into something else
Either:
We buy noreply.com and reduce future data leaks
or
We directly fund local technical education and security experimentation
