My name is Alicia and I have been married to my best friend Sarah for 7 years now. We live in Florida and have a beautiful, autistic, neurodivergent daughter who was conceived using a known donor. I am thd birth mother. According to Florida law, Sarah does not have rights to her despite being married to me, being the other parent listed on her birth certificate and being her stay at home caregiver. If anything happened to me, it is quite possible Sarah would have a difficult or outright impossible time in keeping her at home with the only remaining family she knows and regularly sees. I am no contact with a large portion of my family and one of my greatest fears is her being taken from her loving Mommy to be given to family I do not speak to and who would not raise her or support her according to my wishes and her particular needs.

It has taken us quite a long time to find a local lawyer who would help us pursue a step parent adoption after running into many dead ends. We have received a quote of approximately $4500 dollars to help us secure Sarah's rights as a legal parent and terminate the donor's rights to her. He is fully supportive and on board to do this and we are grateful for his support. We are asking for an even $5000 to cover any additional paperwork or to take care of any surprise fees or set backs in the process.

We are a low income family with a single income who cannot afford this but we are desperate to secure our rights as a family in this uncertain world. We sincerely appreciate any assistance, whether that be monetarily or through sharing our story. It is our deepest wish to get this moving forward and completed by the end of the year to secure our rights as a family in the only way we can.
