Help secure a home for Robert Font a single Grandfather of 6
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, thank you for taking the time to read this. My father, Robert Font Sr. is a 62-year-old single grandfather of six children, ages 6-13. Seven years ago, my father and my mother decided to take custody of all six of my sister's children due to her unfortunately having issues with substance abuse. Sadly, a year later, my mother abruptly passed away from heart complications at the age of 51. She proudly served the United States Navy for 13 years, and my dad was there every step of the way as a journeyman/house dad, picking up whatever jobs he could every time my mother was relocated. They raised me and my siblings in both the church and the military. For the last six years, we have tried to secure the funds that he should have received from the military after my mother's passing. We are still fighting that because, since the day she died, he has not received anything from the military. After her passing, we all sat down to figure out placement for the children, only to find out there was no option except for one. My father said that he would die before he let his grandkids get separated and that he would be there for them no matter what. Since then, he has completely taken on the role of a single father. For this and so much more, he is my hero. Now my hero needs a hero.
The house that he has been living in for the last nine years was owned by a friend of his who has unfortunately passed away. The property was given to his daughter and grandson. We recently found out that they are looking to sell this house, and I will say they did give my father the opportunity to purchase the house. Unfortunately, it's not something that he can currently afford while being a single grandfather. He works as a crossing guard for the school district, volunteers for Feed America, and does odd jobs here and there. Definitely not sustainable enough to purchase a house.
How can you help
If you are reading this and you are not in the position to help, all we ask for is prayers and to repost this link. That would truly be appreciated. As far as the usage of the funds, we are looking to put a large down payment on a house for him and the children. Any additional funds will go to him simply being able to take care of the kids day to day. I always feel like at his age, he should be sitting somewhere enjoying the fruits of his labor. Instead, he chose to start all over and be a dad again. The truth is, my father is not big on handouts, but if anybody ever deserved help, it would be this man. Every time I talk to him, I can hear the fear in his voice that he will not be able to have a place for these children to lay their heads. I would truly appreciate your help if we can take this burden off of his shoulders. The responsibility that he has taken on is more than enough without having to worry about if they'll have somewhere to live.
Thank you
I would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you for any contribution and all the prayers and love that you can send.
