On Sunday 26th April 2026, Marske United is heading to Wetherby Races for the famous Mascot Gold Cup, and our much-loved mascot Seasider Sid will be putting on his running shoes once again to race against mascots from across the country.

While the race promises plenty of fun (and probably a few wobbles and tumbles in that big headed mascot costume with also the infamous biggest feet on the field!) it’s also a fantastic opportunity to raise vital funds for Marske United Football Club. Sid is always there bringing smiles, energy and support to the club and our fans, and now it’s Sid’s turn to ask for a little help.

This event isn’t just about the race — it’s about supporting the club and improving the facilities that help everyone who wears the Marske badge, from grassroots youngsters taking their first touch of the ball to our men’s and ladies’ senior teams, along with the coaches, volunteers and supporters who give their time week in and week out.

Every pound raised goes towards improving the facilities that make the club a better place for:

• Young players learning the game in a safe, positive environment

• Teams training and playing with pride

• Volunteers who give up their time week in, week out

• The whole Marske community that rallies around the club

Mascot races are never easy, especially in a full mascot costume, but Sid is ready to give it everything he’s got for another year, hoping to beat his best result yet of coming 5th last year.

Whether he waddles, sprints or tumbles across the finish line, he’ll be doing it proudly for Marske United.

1.00 - 1.30pm Mascot Parade in Parade Ring

2.00pm First horse race

2.10pm (approx) Mascot Gold Cup starts

2.40pm (approx) Presentation of MGC awards (trophy winners only)

3.00pm (approx) Mini Mascot Parade in secondary ring followed by

Mini Mascot Gold Cup race and presentation of trophies

5.00pm Final horse race

There are a number of food options. For info, picnics are allowed in the paddock, to be consumed in designated picnic areas.
