Hi, I’m Brennan Lawton, Scott Lawton’s son. On the morning of April 10th, my father received the call no one ever wants to get: his home of 35 years was on fire. We rushed over and could only helplessly watch as his home burned.
While the How of the fire has been determined by the fire department- the furnace cover had been removed, and clothing and flammables had been recklessly piled up against it. The Why is still under investigation with the authorities. Scott had been staying at my house for several days (due to personal reasons), and he was not home when the fire started. What isn't in question is this: my father no longer has a home. He no longer has belongings. He is starting over from nothing.
Scott is a U.S. Army Veteran, and a disabled one, living with the effects of multiple TBIs and a full shoulder replacement. But if you know Scott, you know that's never defined him. For decades he has shown up for the community of Crockett as a contractor, a Boy Scout Master, and a neighbor who gave more than he ever asked for in return.
Now we're asking the community to give back.
Every dollar raised will go toward helping Scott secure new housing (hopefully still in Crockett, the town he loves) and replace the necessities and personal belongings lost in the fire.
If you can give, please give. If you can't, please share, and share your story of how Scott may have helped you. Getting this in front of the right eyes could help turn his situation around.
For any questions, please reach out to me directly rather than contacting my father (he needs space and time to grieve).
From the ashes, let's help him rebuild.
