The International Dance Club has been a vibrant part of Colorado Springs since 1979, offering a welcoming space for dancers and community members alike. Built and maintained by volunteers, our 5,000 square foot dance hall is home to a variety of events, including square, round, and contra dancing, as well as cherished traditions like our annual New Year's Eve celebration. This event is especially meaningful for older adults who seek an affordable, early evening gathering with live music, beautiful decorations, and a sense of belonging. Many attendees are not regular dancers but come together to celebrate in a safe and festive environment.
Our club is run entirely by volunteers, including a dedicated seven-member Board of Directors who handle everything from purchasing snacks and setting up for dances to managing finances, maintenance, and rentals. Volunteers also decorate for events, maintain the property, hire bands, and keep our website running. Their commitment keeps the club alive, but recent challenges have put our future at risk. The air conditioning system failed a decade ago, and the financial impact of the COVID pandemic made it impossible to replace. Summers in Colorado Springs are hotter than ever, forcing us to cancel dances and events when temperatures rise. This affects not only our regular dancers—many of whom are older and have health concerns—but also renters who rely on our accessible space for weddings, funerals, graduation parties, and disability group gatherings.
A new air conditioning system would allow us to host dances every Saturday night, welcome more renters, and provide a comfortable, safe environment for everyone in our community. With your support, we can preserve the International Dance Club as a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to dance, celebrate, and connect.
