Help Save the Hawaiian Ancestral Land

Aloha, I'm Tin Tin Pu'ulei. My land has been passed down through 25 generations. My ancestors migrated out of Kalalau Valley, forced out of their home by the state. Over the generations, we have made the land I've lived on for the last 47 years our home. But it's unsustainable; every time a property gets sold to a rich foreigner, the tax bracket gets raised for locals. Many Hawaiians have lost their homes, and continue to get pushed out of Hawai'i, due to the unaffordable nature of growing taxes.

 

This Go Fund Me will help protect my ancestral land from the state, which is threatening to take my ocean-front land. The state wants it because they know the value of this property. There's less than a handful of native Hawaiians who own ocean-front land and that is by design, a centuries-long scheme to defraud the Hawaiians of our birth right.

 

Even though I have taken out loans to pay off all the taxes the state previously charged, now I cannot afford to both pay the loans back and keep up with the increased taxes. Your donation, through the Happy Hawaiian Foundation, will help keep my land out of foreclosure and continue to keep this land in my ohana, to pass down to my four children. In Hawaiian culture, we don't believe in owning the land; instead we are its stewards and caretakers.
