On April 6, 2021, Mark Beckmann was elected Mayor of Normandy, MO. Since that time the man who ran against Mayor Beckman, who remains as a sitting councilman, together with four of his loyal councilpersons, have done everything in their power to obstruct Mayor Beckmann from making any positive change in the City of Normandy. The Council has challenged the authority of the duly elected Mayor Beckmann, boycotted meetings, blocked the hiring of a City Administrator, blocked the hiring of a Court Administrator, and have ignored legal advice as to their authority to the point that the law firm that has represented Normandy for over 20 years resigned in frustration. They then illegally recruited a new attorney friendly to their position and proceeded to vote to fire a 12-year veteran of our Police Department with a stellar record of serving our community. Mayor Beckmann has filed suit in St. Louis County Circuit Court challenging the illegal activities of the Council and was successful in securing a Temporary Restraining Order blocking the illegal firing of this dedicated officer. The Council then retaliated by voting to impeach Mayor Beckmann. The cost of these court proceedings has cost Mayor Beckmann $10,000 of his personal funds. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 31, with a final court date to follow that will determine who has the authority to run the day-to-day operations of City Hall. The anticipated cost of continuing this battle in court is in excess of $30,000. The actions of the Normandy City Council are nothing less than an attempt to overturn the results of the April 6 election by putting control of city hall back into the hands of Councilman Hunt.
