Preserving a Historic Healing Inn at the Foot of Mount Shasta for Future Generations

We Kindly Ask for Your Support
Stoney Brook Inn is located on the main street of McCloud, a small and beautiful mountain town nestled at the southeastern foothills of the sacred Mount Shasta in California, USA.
The charming downtown area of McCloud has been designated a Registered Historic District, consisting of 17 historic buildings. Stoney Brook Inn is one of them. Built more than 100 years ago, the building still retains the rich character and atmosphere of old America.
Even today, there are no modern high-rise hotels or motels in this town. The McCloud Railway, which once transported timber and later served as a filming location for the movie Stand by Me, has now disappeared.
Visitors who step into this town often feel as though they have traveled back in time. Travelers not only from across the United States but also from many other countries are drawn to this nostalgic atmosphere, finding rest and healing for both body and soul.
However, as the building continues to age, the costs required for maintenance and restoration of Stoney Brook Inn have steadily increased.
This project was launched not for profit, but together with devoted longtime guests who love the inn and wish to ensure that it can continue operating as a safe and peaceful place of rest for those who visit the sacred Mount Shasta.

All donations from everyone will be used carefully and entirely for the following purposes:

  • Removal and trimming of three pine trees adjacent to the building – Estimated cost: approximately $18,000
  • Roof repairs and replacement – Estimated cost: $60,000–$70,000
  • Exterior painting of the entire main building – Estimated cost: $50,000–$60,000
  • Partial exterior painting – Estimated cost: $15,000–$20,000

The three tall pine trees located on the inn property continue to grow larger every year and have begun to put pressure on the inn building itself. If this situation continues, maintaining the building may become increasingly difficult. After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to have the trees cut back. However, we do not plan to remove them completely from the roots; instead, they will only be trimmed down to a height that will keep the building safe.

The inn’s roof has become significantly aged over time. There are leaks and other issues, and a complete roof replacement is now necessary.

In addition, the exterior paint on the building has been peeling badly, and ideally the entire building needs to be repainted. Unfortunately, a full repaint is beyond our current budget, so we hope to proceed gradually with partial painting work. Our first goal is simply to repaint at least the front side of the building.

To continue offering a safe and comfortable stay for our guests, we sincerely ask for your understanding and support.
As a token of our heartfelt gratitude, we plan to send a special thank-you letter to all supporters and display your name inside the inn. (Please note that we are unable to offer material or monetary rewards in return, and we appreciate your understanding.)
If you resonate with our mission, we would be deeply grateful for your support.
To preserve this beautiful town and its historic building for future generations, we kindly ask for your warm and generous contribution.

(Stoney Brook Inn,)
