Old St Hubert Church is one of the original structures built over 138 years ago, and the community of Chanhassen, MN grew around it. Recently, the Catholic Community of St Hubert decided to decommission the church and is considering razing it. However, a survey among parishioners and the Chanhassen community showed that over 58% support restoring the church. I stepped forward, forming a committee of community leaders to lead a discussion about the possibilities of restoring and repurposing this historic building.
The old church truly holds within its walls the stories and history of our earliest forefathers who established this great community. It stands as a symbol of their hard work and dedication, inspiring generations of families. Like a fine piece of art, the church is a magnificent structure to behold, and unlike a painting, you can step inside and experience its beauty firsthand. Its steeple remains a beacon, visible to residents every day, and it is the very last historic building in Chanhassen. If it is razed, it cannot be rebuilt, and its history will be lost forever.
Funds raised will be used to organize a nonprofit, hire professionals to facilitate community discussions, start a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and hire a professional fundraiser to conduct a feasibility study for restoring and repurposing the church. Your donation allows us to have a community-wide conversation and thoroughly examine the possibilities for restoration and reuse. Please join us in preserving this important piece of our history for future generations.
