Hello Friends,
We invite you to join us in a heartfelt mission to preserve a cherished piece of history in the greater Briar Bay community of Riceboro, Georgia. The former one-room schoolhouse, which served as an educational haven for the descendants of formerly enslaved citizens, later became a beloved praise house, holding deep spiritual significance for generations.
This historic building has been a beacon of hope and a place of worship where community members gather for Sunday school and the cherished Watch Night and Crop Supper traditions. On Watch Night, we come together to usher in the New Year with a night of worship, culminating in a Crop Supper—a communal meal prepared with love from donated crops and meats, symbolizing unity and gratitude.
Unfortunately, the building that holds so many memories is in dire need of repair. From ceiling repairs to flooring, painting, and essential upgrades, the structure requires urgent attention to ensure it remains safe and welcoming for all who enter its doors.
We humbly ask for your support in our fundraising efforts to restore and maintain this historic site. Your generous contributions will help us preserve the legacy of the our Praise House, ensuring that the traditions of Watch Night and Crop Supper continue to thrive, celebrating our rich Black heritage and history.
Join us in honoring the past and securing the future of this vital community landmark. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to our goal. Together, we can ensure that the First African Missionary Baptist Church’s Praise House remains a symbol of resilience and community spirit for generations to come.
Thank you for your generosity and support! DONATE NOW!!!
