We are raising funds for our friend Alexandra, who is disabled, lives with a serious autoimmune disorder, and is now facing the very real risk of homelessness.
Six months ago, Alexandra lost her home after severe black mould was discovered while the roof was being repaired following major storm damage. The mould made the house unsafe for habitation, and it was ultimately deemed so dangerous that it had to be demolished. Living on disability income, Alexandra does not have the financial means to secure housing in today’s extremely competitive rental market. Affordable housing options exist, but the waiting list is currently two years long.
Because of her autoimmune condition, Alexandra must remain isolated much of the time. This makes traditional shelters unsafe for her, as exposure to crowds could seriously compromise her health. At present, she is staying in a motel, but she will be required to vacate it at the end of this month, leaving her with no secure place to go. She also relies on her elderly therapy dog—her constant companion and essential support—who must remain with her.
We have found a viable, compassionate solution—but we need help to make it happen.
A converted school bus has become available that would provide Alexandra with a safe, self-contained living space that meets her needs. It would allow her to remain housed, protected from the elements, and out of harm’s way during the winter months. The cost of the bus is $26,000.
Any funds raised beyond that amount would go directly toward:
* Alexandra’s high and ongoing medication costs
* Fees to help her settle into a tiny home or RV park that allows seasonal rentals
* Replacing basic household items such as towels and essentials she lost when her home was destroyed
Time is truly of the essence. Without this support, Alexandra is at risk of losing even her temporary shelter very soon.
Any contribution—large or small—will make a meaningful difference. Your generosity can help ensure that Alexandra has a safe place to live, the ability to protect her health, and the dignity of stability during an incredibly difficult chapter of her life.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and helping if you are able.
