Savannah's Fight with Type 1 Diabetes

Donation protected
Thank you all who have donated thus far. You are all truely amazing and we cannot express the love we have for your generosity. Thank you Please help Savannah who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (an auto immune disease requiring lifelong insulin multiple times each day) on the 28/01/2020. Savannah and her family were blindsided by the diagnosis and have since been in hospital. Savannah is a beautiful, brave and strong-willed 9 year old girl who's life has just been turned upside down. At this point in time Savannah is receiving approximately 7 Blood Glucose Readings (pricks to the fingers) and a minimum of 4 injections of insulin (needle in the tummy, legs or buttocks) on a daily basis. Unfortunately Savannah has needlephobia and this process is extremely traumatic for Savannah and has required 3-4 persons to assist with the injections and blood glucose testing. In the mid morning hours of the 31/01/2020 Savannah’s parents received information that Savannah had most ‘likely’ qualified to receive and insulin pump under private health insurance (still with a 12 month waiting period), however some company’s when informed directly by the insurance company that at the end of the 12 months will receive the full funds for the pump will send a pump out on loan. This pump will be Savannah’s for the next 3 years and replaced by insurance accordingly. This pump is yet to be trialed with Savannah at this stage and Savannah’s treating team hold concerns of Savannah pulling out the subcutaneous cannula which delivers her insulin due to the needle-phobia. In the meantime Savannah’s mother Stacey is not working (previously on a full time income) and there are many costs associated with Type 1 diabetes such as; a continuous blood glucose monitor *aiming to reduce the amount of multiple daily testing down to 2 best case scenario, an iPhone 6 at minimum to send data to Savannah and also to her parents (with the ability to identify hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia which left untreated can be life threatening, medication and device extras as the Type 1 Diabetes is better understood within Savannah’s body. Savannah’s parents are utilising what leave they do have, however that is already running out. Savannah needs her mother by her side 24/7 while the multidisciplinary medical team work out Savannah’s management plan. I’m addition to Savannah’s Mother requiring bedside attendance, Savannah’s other parents are required to attend multiple day-long and ongoing education sessions on how to safely care for Savannah and how to use any equipment associated with Type 1 Diabetes management. Any assistance that you can offer no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated for this little angel! Please share and spread the word! All funds raised through this Go Fund Me page will be utilised to support Savannah with Type 1 Diabetes. Savannah is a big sister and is desperately wanting to be discharged from hospital to be with her families. Savannah cannot be discharged from hospital until she overcomes her needle-phobia and can safely receive treatment. Savannah’s life as she knew it will take a very long time to return to and as close to ‘normal’ as possible and as quickly as possible. No child should go through this and if Savannah’s parents could trade places with Savannah, they would! Thank you friends, family, and all the other amazing persons taking the time to give and share to Savannah and her family.
