Hello! Some of you know and some don’t that our incredible, badass, business owner, mom of two boys, and hockey mom (which deserves its own category since she spends 12 days a week at the rink), Sara, has been enduring a long and exhausting medical battle. After years of self-advocating, she was determined to have Chiari Malfomation, a condition where her big beautiful brain is too big for her skull and her brain tissue is being pushed into her spinal canal. (Ask her how many times she went to the hospital and was told her symptoms were “just anxiety”. Jk, don’t).
After consulting with a really great neurosurgeon at UW, she is scheduled for brain surgery in early April. This is a major surgery, where she will be in the ICU 2-7 days post-op, and then continue to heal at home. As a small business owner, she continues to face bureaucratic red tape in accessing state financial support throughout her surgery and recovery.
Closer to April I’ll send out a meal train and opportunities to help with the kids so Jake can continue to work, take care of the boys, and help Sara heal, but for now, what’s needed most is financial security heading into surgery. All money raised from this fundraiser will go towards rent for both home and business, and monthly bills that are usually paid through Sara’s work income. If you’re able to donate, any amount helps support Sara to take as much time as she needs to recover. Sharing this fundraiser with your community also helps tremendously.
It takes a village, and Sara contributes to her community and friends with her whole heart, and now is our opportunity for reciprocity.
Thank you ❤️
