May 2025 Update
I am excited to share an update on the batting cage project! The contractor has finished broadening the cage foundation for two full batting lanes, and also extending them, so the total space will be for 2 cages 15’ wide by 60’ long. The contractor will complete the 8’ high fence enciricling the 12’ high cage this month, which means we are now on the final stretch of installing the turf and nets so the batting cage can open in June for Bronco Overlay teams and others.

In order to meet this timeline we need to raise additional funds in order to complete the cage and purchase remaining materials. Please consider donating.
Introduction
My name is Sammy Ragones. I am in Troop 15 and I am partnering with the Piedmont Baseball Softball Foundation (PBSF) on the Coaches Field batting cage transformation project for my Eagle Project.
The current Coaches Field batting cages are nearly 20 years old, heavily damaged, and a safety hazard for kids and coaches. Much of the fencing and nets are torn allowing baseballs to fly out of the cage to harm others. The dirt floor is an uneven tripping hazard, and in wet weather it pools with water. The cage is in dire need of a remodel/repair that will benefit all who play baseball and softball in the community in Piedmont, including the PBSF teams in Softball, Pinto, Bronco, and Pony divisions. A new cage with multiple lanes will benefit anyone looking to improve, including players of all ages
For my piece of the project, I will be responsible for preparing the site, and finishing the cage, and laying turf. This includes dismantling the original cage (nets, poles, mats, fencing) to the ground level and installing the new nets and turf. I am raising funds to help purchase tools and materials.

This project is meaningful to me because I played 10 years with PBSF, from Shetland through Pony, and currently play on the Piedmont High School baseball team. These new batting cages will positively impact thousands of future baseball and softball players in Piedmont. I am also building on the legacy of Troop 15 where Eagle Scout Alexander Menke built the last batting cage for his Eagle project in 2006. To commemorate the project, I will install a plaque to recognize all the partners. Please join me in supporting this legacy by adding your financial support today!
