Help Sammy Get a New Wheelchair Van
Donation protected
My name is Dawn and I’m raising money for my daughter Sammy to get another used or new wheelchair-accessible van.
Our current one is 16 years old, and the wiring and entire electrical portion of the door, including the lift, is no longer working, with all the wiring hanging out. The parts are discontinued, the mechanic said. He did try to see if it was possible to get them all, but no, due to the van's age.
We need her to have a wheelchair lift van to take her to not only doctor appointments but also to fun events. She is wheelchair-bound, has cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder due to LGS, CVID, and has a feeding tube for enteral nutrition. She eats sometimes puréed foods when tolerated for pleasure, not nourishment, because her weight can’t be maintained. She is nonverbal but happy.
She has had orthopedic surgery on her hip related to a femur fracture and osteoporosis, had 6 emergency bowel operations for blockages and twisted bowels, plus she has a port in her chest for her monthly infusions. She is also on CPAP for her sleep apnea because she was stopping breathing 8-13 times an hour and is doing very well on her CPAP.
She’s also incontinent, and we get help for her from home care nurses because she’s on 3 anticonvulsants for her seizures as well as meds for her reflux, osteoporosis, and asthma. She receives IV immunoglobulin monthly for her CVID. It’s just Sammy and I and we really need your help to get her another wheelchair-accessible van. Her birthday is on April 25th and this all happened at the worst time.
