Today, I walked into a grocery store and met Salimah.
I approached her and asked if she could help me buy a jacket for my daughter. Without hesitation, she reached into her pocket and offered me a dollar.
I gave her $500 to reward her kindness. That’s when I learned her story. Salimah is currently homeless, living in a shelter with her five children. As her rent went up without prior notice, she was unable to afford it, and the landlord changed the locks on her and her children. She has been doing everything to get back on her feet. She works in the Bronx at a park and is doing everything she can to provide for her children.
Even in the middle of her own struggle, she was willing to help a stranger. Let’s come together, rally around Salimah, and help get her and her children off the streets and into a safe home. ❤️
