Help Salem Ivy Gain Her Voice with AAC Device
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Raven and the curly-haired cutie in the pictures is my daughter, Salem Ivy. Salem was diagnosed with autism in 2024. With her diagnosis, she has a speech delay and has a hard time communicating; she mostly hand leads to let us know what she needs.
We recently made the decision for me to quit my job to stay home with Salem so I could be more one-on-one with her to help her development. Unfortunately, our insurance doesn’t cover autism treatments such as her speech and OT therapy, so it all comes out of pocket. Salem's therapist has suggested the next step to help with her communication is to purchase a speech tablet, also known as an AAC device. With this technology, she would be able to gain independence, expand communication, and increase her social interactions. AAC devices have proven to be effective communication tools for non-verbal or minimally verbal children for years now. These devices are expensive; without insurance, they start out at $6k!
I struggled with the idea of asking for help from complete strangers, but there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for my Salem. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and any donation is so greatly appreciated! We just hope for one day to finally hear her sweet voice tell us what she needs without difficulty communicating.
