I hope this letter finds you well. I am a young mother reaching out to you today who is in desperate need of your support. My name is Saleema, an immigrant who is currently experiencing homelessness and fighting to keep my family together.

I’m currently facing a critical situation that requires immediate attention. I am at risk of being deported, which could potentially lead to the separation of my baby from my husband and I. My husband has been in jail since January 1, 2024, due to racial profiling. The police stopped him while he was walking from the laundromat and decided to bring him in. He wasn’t aware of the state law that he couldn’t conceal carry, but the whole situation of how the police approached him was wrong, and he was injured during the arrest because of the excessive force used, claiming he was resisting. Now he is facing criminal charges and we are unable to pay for a good lawyer. He is currently facing charges for Weapon-Carrying Concealed and resisting arrest. My husband is a farmer, and an excellent father and husband. Just because he is facing criminal charges doesn’t mean he is a bad person. He would never do anything reckless or dangerous to anyone. He is a father that believes in protecting his family and respects all life. Due to my husband's incarceration, I have been left homeless with our son for the past 6 months in this country that is foreign to me, with no family or support during this crisis.

Last year when me and my husband was trying trying to start the process of adjusting my status, we had sent all my documents to an office in Miami, and I have yet to receive my documents back, so I am here without any documentation. I am at risk of being deported due to the given circumstances of not being able to have proper status while in America without my husband.. and if I was to be deported, I would be banned from America for possibly 10 years. I wouldn’t be able to have my son, due to the fact that he is a US citizen, and I am unable to provide proper care for him being homeless, and I honestly don’t have any home to go back to in my home country.

To prevent this heartbreaking outcome, I urgently need to raise $15,000+ to cover the legal fees required to secure my family.

I have already endured unimaginable hardships and have lost everything. I am now battling depression while trying to rebuild my life. On top of that, I am also grieving the loss of one of our sons who just passed away on May 13, 2024. Despite these immense challenges, I remain determined to keep my family together and provide a better future for my toddler.
