After 48 Years in America, Saithong Suddenly Found Himself Alone in a Country He Barely Remembers
My name is miah anderson and I’m raising funds to help my uncle Saithong Thammachanh, a 63-year-old man who was recently deported to Laos after living nearly his entire life in the United States.
Saithong came to the U.S. as a refugee when he was just 15 years old. America has been his home ever since. It’s where he grew up, built friendships, worked hard, and built a life surrounded by the people he loves.
In his late 20s, Saithong made some mistakes and was charged with drug possession. He took full responsibility, served his time, and worked to move forward. For more than 20 years, he faithfully reported to immigration for every check-in—never missing one, never getting into trouble again, and doing everything that was asked of him.
After decades of living a quiet and peaceful life, Saithong was suddenly deported to Laos—a country he hasn’t seen since he was a teenager. He wasn’t aware that he had the right to appeal his deportation order, and now he’s been sent back to a place that feels completely foreign.
Although Saithong has some extended family in Laos, they are relatives he has never met before. The only family he’s ever really known—his mother, sister, daughter, grandchildren, and nieces—are all still here in the United States. Being separated from them after so many years has been heartbreaking and disorienting.
At 63 years old, Saithong is now trying to survive in a country that’s no longer familiar. He arrived with almost nothing—no home, no income, and no understanding of the local systems or way of life. He’s doing his best to adjust, but starting over at this stage in life is incredibly difficult.
This fundraiser is to help Saithong with his daily living expenses—food, safe shelter, transportation, and basic necessities—until he can find stable work and begin to rebuild his life.
Saithong is a gentle, kind-hearted man who has faced this situation with quiet strength and dignity. He’s never asked for help before, but right now, he truly needs it.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping him survive and regain stability in this unfamiliar place. More than that, it will remind him that he’s not forgotten—that compassion and kindness still reach across oceans.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Saithong’s story, for donating if you can, and for sharing his fundraiser to help spread the word.
❤️ No one should have to start over at 63. With your help, Saithong can find hope and stability again
