My name is Roxanne, and I never imagined I’d be writing something like this. I’ve always prided myself on being independent, resilient, and able to handle whatever life throws my way. But right now, my family and I are facing one of the hardest challenges of our lives, and I’m humbly reaching out for help.
After years of hard work and sacrifice, I finally achieved a lifelong dream — purchasing my first home through my VA Home Loan. It was a moment of pride and joy, a reflection of all the effort I had put in to give my family stability and a place we could finally call our own.
But just one month after moving in, that dream was shattered. A major plumbing failure caused severe water and sewage damage throughout the house. Every water system and outlet was impacted — the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry area, and even the refrigerator lines. Both bathrooms were destroyed and contaminated, requiring complete reconstruction from the ground up.
As if that weren’t enough, the standing water and sewage led to widespread mold growth, spreading quickly through the walls, floors, and ventilation system. The air became unsafe to breathe, and the house we were so proud to call home suddenly became a health hazard. We had no choice but to leave.
Since then, my family has been displaced — moving between friends’ homes, relatives’ spare rooms, and eventually a hotel. We’ve tried our best to stay positive, but the cost of temporary housing, food, gas, and basic necessities has completely drained our savings. On top of that, the cleanup and repair estimates for the plumbing, sewage, and mold remediation are overwhelming — far beyond what we can manage on our own.
Our homeowners insurance has refused to cover the damages, and without a home warranty, we’ve been left to shoulder the full financial burden. We’ve lost so many personal belongings — furniture, clothing, keepsakes, and other essentials — all destroyed or contaminated beyond repair.
This experience has been heartbreaking. Watching the home I worked so hard for fall apart, and feeling powerless to fix it, has been devastating. Still, I’m holding onto hope — that through the kindness and compassion of others, we can rebuild and return home.
I’m asking, from the bottom of my heart, for any help you can give. No donation is too small — every dollar will go directly toward:
Mold removal and air remediation
Plumbing and sewage repair
Bathroom and flooring reconstruction
Replacing essential household items
Covering temporary housing and daily living costs
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing our story. Every share, every prayer, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to restoring our home and stability.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for caring about our situation. Your support means more than words can express, and I pray that one day I’ll be able to pay this kindness forward.
With deep gratitude,
Roxanne George
