Help Roll The Dice Cornwall Level Up — A New Home for Gaming, Community, and Wellbeing
We HAVE a shop. But we ARE NOT a shop.
Roll The Dice Cornwall C.I.C. is a non-profit Community Interest Company based in Helston. We use tabletop gaming — Warhammer, D&D, Magic: The Gathering, board games, you name it — as a genuine force for social, emotional, and mental wellbeing across all ages.
We started out as a free children's Warhammer club in a chapel. Two friends, a handful of kids, and a shared belief that rolling dice and pushing miniatures around a table could do more than just pass the time. It could build confidence. It could teach emotional regulation. It could give a lonely kid their first real friend group.
Since then, we've grown into something we never could have imagined:
- Hundreds of children and young people welcomed through our doors
- 19 schools across Cornwall worked with directly
- Around 45 kids supported every single week across our clubs
- A full week of evening events
- 300–400 people walking through our doors weekly
- A fully volunteer-run team where every penny of profit goes back into community programmes
We sell miniatures, trading cards, and board games below RRP to keep the hobby accessible — not because we're trying to undercut anyone, but because we believe cost should never be the thing that keeps someone from finding their people. Every booster pack, every box of Space Marines, every board game sold helps fund free clubs, therapeutic sessions, adult evenings, and educational programmes for people who need them.
That's who we are. That's what we do. And now we need your help to do more of it.
Why We Need to Move
Our current home at 8 Coinagehall Street, Helston has been good to us. But we've outgrown it — and not in a "wouldn't it be nice to have more room" kind of way. In a "we are genuinely turning people away because there's no space" kind of way.
Here's the reality:
Our evening sessions are getting full. Really full. The kind of full where someone new walks in, looks around, sees every seat taken, and we have to gently tell them to come back another night. That's the worst thing we do — turning someone away from a space that exists specifically to welcome people in.
Our Friday night tabletop sessions are happening in a setting that isn't right for them. We're making it work, because that's what we do, but we know it could be so much better. Players deserve a proper space to settle in, spread out, and actually enjoy the game without feeling like they're crammed into a corner.
We can only run one thing at a time. This is the big one. We have people asking us to run different sessions — children's clubs, adult D&D nights, ladies+ evenings, painting workshops, school groups — and we physically cannot say yes to all of them because we only have one space. When a school wants a Wednesday afternoon session and a community group wants a Wednesday evening workshop, we can only do one. Every time we pick one, someone else misses out.
That's not a sustainable way to run a community organisation that exists to serve as many people as possible. So we're moving.
Where We're Going
We're relocating to 2–4 Angel Centre, Helston — the former Outback Trading building. It's bigger, it's better laid out, and it gives us the room to actually be everything our community needs us to be.
Here's what the new space will let us do:
Run multiple sessions at the same time
This is the game-changer. Literally. Instead of choosing between a children's club and an adult session, we can run both. Instead of saying "sorry, we're full," we can say "come on in." More sessions, more people, more impact — without anyone being turned away at the door.
A dedicated D&D / RPG room
A proper room, set up specifically for tabletop roleplaying. No packing away tables to make room for something else. No playing in a corner that wasn't designed for it. Just a dedicated space where campaigns can unfold, characters can grow, and people can lose themselves in a story — exactly the kind of immersive, therapeutic experience that makes RPGs such a powerful tool for social and emotional development.
Our own tabletop centre — tables set up and ready, always
In the new space, we'll have gaming tables that are set up all the time and can be used whenever we're open. No more unpacking and rearranging before every session. No more setting up from scratch every single time. People can just walk in, sit down, and play. That sounds simple, but for someone with anxiety who's working up the courage to walk through the door for the first time, knowing there's a table ready and waiting — that removes a barrier. That makes it possible.
An expanded retail offer — supporting and subsidising more of what matters
A bigger space means a bigger shop, and a bigger shop means more revenue to pour back into community programmes. Every additional product we can stock, every extra sale we can make, directly funds more free sessions, more events, more support for the people who need it most. The shop isn't the point of what we do — but it's what makes everything else possible. More shop = more community. It's that simple.
A community space
Whilst we will have the first floor set up for tabletop gaming each day, we also want to use this space to help support the wider community, gaming and non-gaming alike. We would love to become the home for other local gaming groups; to host community events, like indoor carboots; support other community groups, such as arts and crafts; and much more!
What Your Donation Will Fund
This fundraiser covers the furniture, fittings, and setup costs for the new premises. Moving into a bigger building means we need to properly fit it out — and that's where you come in.
Your donations will go toward:
- Gaming tables and seating — proper tables designed for tabletop gaming, enough chairs to seat everyone comfortably, and the kind of setup that makes the space feel like home the moment you walk in
- Shelving and retail fittings — so we can expand our shop offer and generate more revenue to sustain and grow our community programmes
- Room dividers and fixtures — to create dedicated spaces for different sessions running simultaneously, including our D&D/RPG room
- Painting, decoration, and signage — making the space welcoming, inclusive, and unmistakably Roll The Dice
- Basic infrastructure and setup costs — the practical stuff that turns an empty building into a community hub
Every pound raised goes directly into making the new space ready for the community. No admin costs skimmed off the top. No surprise extras. Just the physical setup we need to open the doors and get back to doing what we do — welcoming people in, rolling some dice, and changing lives through gaming.
What Your Donation Could Do
You don't have to be a gamer to get what we're about. You just have to remember what it felt like to find your people — or to wish you had.
Here's what different donation amounts could help fund:
- £10 — A seat at the table. Could help fund a chair for the new gaming space. Simple, practical, essential. Every seat we add is another person who doesn't have to be turned away.
- £25 — Game on. Could help cover gaming table fittings and accessories — dice trays, battle mats, the stuff that turns a table into a proper gaming setup. The details that make a space feel like it was made for this.
- £50 — Build the RPG room. Could contribute toward fitting out our dedicated D&D/RPG room — the space where therapeutic roleplaying sessions will help kids and adults build confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience.
- £100 — Set the stage. Could help fund shelving and retail fixtures that expand our shop, generating more revenue to subsidise free community sessions. Every shelf we add is another step toward sustainability.
- £250 — Open the doors wider. Could contribute toward room dividers and fixtures that let us run multiple sessions at once — meaning we never have to choose between helping a school group and hosting a community evening again.
- £500 — A proper home. Could make a significant contribution toward the overall setup of the new space — furniture, fittings, and the practical infrastructure that turns a building into a community hub.
- Any amount — Every bit helps. Whether it's £5 or £5,000, every single donation brings us closer to opening a bigger, better, more welcoming space for the Cornwall gaming community. If you can't donate, sharing this campaign with someone who might care is just as valuable.
- Those that are able to donate £100 or more will have their name/s of choice shared on our Community Supporters wall: a large display which will immortalise those who have been able to really push our capacity forward with their donations. Those who are able to donate £250 or more will instead get a personal plaque next to this as a 'Founding Supporter' to highlight their contribution to Roll the Dice Cornwall C.I.C.
Why This Matters
We're not going to pretend a gaming shop moving to a bigger building is the most important thing happening in the world right now. But here's what we will say:
Every week, we watch kids who were too anxious to speak when they first walked through our door become the ones running the table, teaching newcomers, and laughing with friends. We watch neurodivergent young people who've been told their whole lives that they don't fit in discover that they do — here, with us, over a game of Warhammer or a D&D campaign. We watch adults who've been isolated find their people on a Friday night, rolling dice and not thinking about anything else for a few hours.
That's what this move is about. Not bigger premises for the sake of it. More room for more of those moments. More seats at the table for more people who need one.
Help Us Level Up
If you've ever found your people through a hobby, a game, a community space — you know what this means. If you haven't, we'd love to be that place for you someday.
Please donate if you can. Share this with everyone you know. And if you're in Cornwall, come find us at the new space once we're open — there'll be a table waiting for you.
Thank you. From all of us at Roll The Dice — the volunteers, the players, the kids, the parents, and everyone who's ever rolled a critical fail and laughed about it together.
We have a shop. But we are not a shop. We're a community. And we'd love for you to be part of it.
