The Rohingya community in South Asia has been devastated by the withdrawal of NGO support over the past year on top of stopped resettlement, and increased detention and deportation threat by the government. For decades now they have done hard labor, odd jobs at low wage to support themselves as refugees not allowed to formally work in the host country. Last year in 2025 they lost their access to even the informal wage-labor jobs that they used to do to feed their families, and pay for rent, basic rights and health services. This is an already marginalized stateless community that faces serious impoverishment and cannot go anywhere for safety and security.
On their request I am raising money for the Rohingya community living in the urban villages in the poorest parts of the city to cover their living food and ration costs for 18 families over the next quarter as they try to find other sources of income and relief. Due to heightened risk this fundraiser will not share details of the community, their location or profiles but please feel free to contact the organizer for more information.
Rohingya people are native to Rakhine State in Myanmar, but Myanmar does not recognize them as citizens. The ongoing civil war across Myanmar further adds to the danger, eliminating any chance of safe return.
All the Rohingya community members supported by this fundraiser are refugees recognized by the United Nations refugee organization (UNHCR) and hold UNHCR-issued refugee cards. The state government does not issue any refugee documentation and is not party to the 1951 Refugee Convention or any other refugee law/policy. Many of the Rohingya refugees in this community used to receive long-term visas from the government prior to 2017 which was discontinued. Some of their family members were arbitrarily deported last year - this has been reported on by several news and human rights organizations, including the following:

The supplies we are trying to cover with these funds are bare minimum food rations of rice, dal (lentils), cooking oil, sugar and salt only.
Here are some average metrics to match your donations with:
$84.5: 2 families' food rations for a whole month
$42: 1 family's food rations for a whole month
$28.5: 1 family's rice for a whole month
$35: 1 family's rice, dal, salt and sugar for 1 month
$30: 18 families' salt and sugar rations for 1 month
Please support this effort by donating and sharing with your friends and family members!
