On December 27th, my dad, Roberto Huerta, was detained by ICE without a warrant or explanation, while he was a passenger in a car on his way to work. Our family is raising funds to continue working with an immigration attorney and to help cover other legal expenses. Anything and everything helps, thank you.

Although my dad is a quiet and simple man, he has always been a present father, neighbor, and friend. He put me through college, where I graduated from DU, while my sister is currently a student at CU Denver. Because of him, our home was steady, our needs were met, and we were able to focus on becoming who we wanted to be. For nearly a decade, he has cared for our community garden, showing up week after week after long workdays and early mornings, not because he was asked or expected to, but because he has so much love for the land and for nurturing life. In every aspect of his life, he has been consistent and patient, putting in the work simply because that is who he is.
Our last name, Huerta, means "garden" or "orchard", a meaning that has always felt more than symbolic. He came here with nothing, yet he planted roots through hard work, resilience, and love for his family. Everywhere he has gone, he has helped things grow, whether that meant supporting my sister and me, caring for his community, or tending the land with devotion. Through him, it becomes clear that the earth is not a place with borders, but a shared home where everyone deserves the chance to thrive. His home has always been with us, and we are simply asking for him to be allowed to come home again.
