Help Support Rob’s Recovery After Cancer Surgery
Our Dad, Rob, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and bravely underwent a total laryngectomy. While this means he will never be able to speak again, it also gave him more time with his kids and grandkids — a second chance at life that he accepted with courage and gratitude.
The doctors are optimistic that they were able to remove most of the cancer, but recovery will be long. Rob now faces rehabilitation, radiation treatments, and frequent trips from Colusa to Sacramento for appointments. He also needs medical equipment, much of which isn’t fully covered by insurance. My sister Katie has taken unpaid time off work to care for him, and we don’t yet know if Rob will be able to return to work.
Through it all, his strength, humor, and positivity have been incredible to witness. He has also been completely humbled by the amazing staff and care he has received at UC Davis. Many members of his medical team have recognized that he has spent his professional life serving the community, and have said, “Now it’s time for us to take care of you and get you well.” We can’t thank everyone on his care team enough for their compassion and dedication.
This fundraiser will help cover travel, medical equipment, ongoing treatments, and support for Katie as she continues to care for him full-time. Any contribution makes a difference and allows Rob to focus on healing and enjoying this next chapter with his family. We are so grateful for your love, support, and prayers.
If there’s one thing we hope others can take away from Rob’s story, it’s this: listen to your body. Stage 4 cancer can happen faster than you think.
