On Friday, 21.08.26 our family’s world changed forever in a way none of us could ever have imagined.

My beautiful mum, Roanna, and her partner Stephen Gibson, were involved in a horrific car accident.

Stephen tragically lost his life.

Mum survived, but was left with serious injuries and a long road of physical recovery ahead of her. While her body is trying to heal, she is also facing something no amount of medicine can fix — the heartbreak of losing the man she loved and the life they had built together.

Stephen wasn’t just Mum’s partner. He was her person, her best friend, her companion and the man she expected to grow old with.

For 11 years they shared a life together — the ordinary days, the special moments, the laughter, the plans for the future and all of the little things that make a life with someone yours.

And in one completely unexpected moment, that future was taken away.

Mum is now trying to comprehend going home to a life that looks completely different, without Stephen beside her, while also recovering from injuries that mean she cannot simply return to normal life.

Watching someone you love experience this kind of grief while also being physically hurt is something I can’t put into words. As her family, we desperately wish we could take even a small part of this pain away from her.

We can’t bring Stephen home, and we can’t take away Mum’s heartbreak, but we can try to make the months ahead a little less overwhelming.

We have created this GoFundMe so that Mum doesn’t have to carry the additional burden of worrying about finances while she is grieving and recovering. The funds raised will help support her with rent and any other unexpected costs that come with having your entire life turned upside down overnight.

More than anything, we want to give Mum time.

Time to heal.

Time to grieve Stephen.

Time to somehow begin figuring out what life looks like from here without the person she thought would always be beside her.
