My name is Charmaine Batoon and I created this GoFundMe to help raise funds for my Uncle Riz and Aunty Evelyn.

On Friday, May 16th, around 10:00 am, we smelled smoke and heard popping sounds. At first, we thought it was just the neighbors having a BBQ and/or popping fireworks. We didn’t pay much attention because it was also pouring at the time.

At around 10:30 am, we heard pounding on our door from someone who was jogging around the area. “The house next door is on fire! It’s on fire! I don’t think the aunty or uncle is home, but I already called 911!”

My uncle then sprinted to his sister’s house and immediately grabbed the hose to try and help put the fire out. Little did we know, my aunty was still inside trying to rescue her pets! They have 1 dog and 2 cats, but sadly their cats didn’t make it.

My aunty tried her best to save whatever she could from the inside, but it was too late. She had to jump out of her second-floor window to their first-floor roof. Luckily, HFD came just in time to help her get out.

Uncle Riz and Aunty Evelyn are the kindest people you’d ever meet! They’re always helping those around them whenever possible. My aunty and uncle are also active members of their church and community. My aunty was cooking and preparing for their church potluck, which led to this tragic incident.

My aunty and uncle lost everything to the fire, leaving them with only the clothes on their back. So I am humbly asking those who are able to help, even if it’s just in prayers, it would mean the world to them. They need toiletries, their medicine, clothes, and other necessities. Anything would help them recover and start all over again.
